Dr. Teerapong Leelanupab has been a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Queensland (UQ), School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) since August 7, 2023. I currently a course instructor of Machine Learning in Business.

I have been a program committee a program commitee of SIGIR  2011-24, and was a program commitee of AIRS 2012 and 2015, and CIKM 2013-15, ECIT-CON 2013 and NCIT 2014-15. I was also a publication chair and local organizer of ICITEE 2015. My research interest spans many aspects of Information Retrieval, including theory, experimentation, evaluation and application. I have actively participated in TREC tracks (e.g., web diversity track and crowdsourcing track).

My current research focuses on: (i) Large Language Models for Information Retrieval (e.g., Retrieval-Augmented Generation - RAG), (ii) machine learning in health data (e.g., human host gene and gut microbiome data for precision diagnosis, and myocardial perfusion imaging/scan, and medical records and focus-group health-related surveys for chronic and non-communicable disease management plan), (iii) multimodal interaction for interactive information retrieval, (iv) user-oriented search paradigms and effectiveness evaluation, and (v) novelty and diversity-based document retrieval. Previously I also did some research on experimental design and evaluation of user search behavior through crowdsourcing interactions, as well as content-based image retrieval.

I am keen on accepting Ph.D. and M.Sc. students in the research area of Information Retrieval, Machine Learning in Medical Data, and Human Computer Interactions. Feel free to contact me about this to discuss about possible research topics of mutual interests and possible funding opportunities.

I was an associate professor at Faculty of Information Technology, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Thailand since August 8 2019.

I was a Co-Founder and active member of the Intelligence Lab for Cognitive and Business Analytics (IcBiz)

I previously taught many courses in Computer Science and Information Technology. These courses, for example, are Information Retrieval and Text Mining, Data Science for Business (Python in Machine Learning with Business-Oriented Practice), Software Engineering, and also contribute to several modules in Information Systems Development.

Around Data Science principles, my areas of expertise and interest are in:

  1. Cognitive and Human-Centered Computing to Develop Adaptive, Contextual and Interactive Systems

  2. Information Retrieval and Personalization

  3. Text Analytics and Mining

  4. Machine Learning

  5. Information Visualization and Storytelling with Data

  6. Data-Driven Strategic Planning and Decision Making for Business.

My expertise includes a comfortable use of multiple related practical tools that I have been working on in both academic and professional projects. For example, Lemur Indri, Terrier Search Toolkit, Python NLTK and SciKit, TensorFlow, Keras, Kubeflow, R-language, Weka, Rapid Miner, and D3 library.

I am also a common invited lecturer and senior project/thesis referee at:

  1. Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Silpakorn University, Thailand.

  2. Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Thailand.

There, I have been teaching several courses from 2013 to present in Web Programming and Web Acceptance Testing using PHP, Laravel, Robot Framework, Javascript and jQuery.

On July 25 2014, I was promoted to be an assistant professor at Faculty of Information Technology, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang,

Since May 2013, I have been a principal investigator of two major national projects, funded by National Research Council of Thailand - NRCT and National Science and Technology Development Agency - NSTDA.

I was a Ph.D. student and member in the Information Retrieval Research group with the Department of Computing Science at the University of Glasgow, under supervision of Prof. Joemon M. Jose and Prof. Keith

Van Rijsbergen. I was granted a full scholarship for my Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the Ministry of Science, Royal Thai Government.

I obtained my Master’s degree with outstanding performance in Software Systems Engineering from University College London (UCL).
